Abandon
1. Never abandon hope, especially when it is the only thing you have.

注：我们都不应该放弃希望，但不应该只有希望，更要珍惜现在的时光。

这不是辆报废车。
注：一辆很破的汽车上贴着这样的标贴。肯定是车太破了，人们老是问他这辆车是不是报废车，司机懒得逐一回答了，就贴上了这个标贴。

那些阻碍你梦想的人可能已经放弃了他们自己的梦想。
注：你有梦想，很多人觉得你的想法不切实际，老给你泼凉水。你不要怨他们，因为他们已经没有了梦想，体会不到有梦想是多么美好的事儿。

It is a great ability to be able to conceal one's abilities.

注：人们不喜欢锋芒太外露的人，所以要学会适当隐藏自己的能力。

活学活用：I must learn to conceal my ability.
我一定要学会隐藏自己的能力。(这么说好象自己有多少能力似的)

The university brings out all abilities including incapability.
大学激发出了你的所有能力，也包括无能。
注：很多人在大学虽然学了一些东西，但适应社会的能力很差。

Sal: How did the job interview go?
Hal: The interviewer told me that they had an opening for a person of my ability.
Sal: Well, that’s good.
Hal: Not really. She was referring to the exit door.

Abroad
How could any English person want to live abroad? Foreigners can’t help living because they were born there.

注：feel at home：随意。你在国外到别人家做客，主人说，“Please feel at home”，意思是让你随意，象在自己家一样，你就可以这样说，意思是我好不容易从家里出来了，我不喜欢在家的感觉。
