choose a place you go to often that is important to you and explain why it is important to you. please include specific details in your explanation.
my favorite place is france. because many people around me who have been there told me the charm about that country. first of all, france is called the land of romance, with beautiful ladies and handsome young men everywhere. i think probably i will find my mr./miss right there. the second reason is that my second foreign language is french, but i never get the chance of speaking it with native speakers. a visit to france will definitely help me polish up my french quickly. lastly, i have long been fascinated by the delicious meals in france. who can resist the temptation of world famous french cheese, yogurt and wine?

some college students choose to take courses in a variety of subject areas in order to get a broad education. others choose to focus on a single subject area in order to have a deeper understanding of that area. which approach to course selection do you think is better for students and why?
it is hard to say because it depends on different situations. if the student is an undergraduate student, then it is a good idea to have a broad education, because an undergraduate student might work on different areas after graduation and a broad education will offer him a better chance of employment. on the other hand, it would be much better for graduate students to focus on one single area, because graduates are more research oriented and are aimed at becoming experts in his field. a deeper understanding of the subject will help him get closer towards his goals and lay him on a more solid foundation for his future career.

according to the listening passage, the man doesn’t like the university’s plan to stop the bus service. first, he thinks that the university bus should go through the area where most of the off-campus students live. the current route is certainly out of date. second, he believes that the university should encourage more students to use buses instead of discouraging them. in his opinion, using the money to expand the parking lot will encourage more students to drive, which will cause greater traffic problem and louder noise on campus. it may also result in a greater need for parking space.

in the listening passage, the woman has a problem on how to arrange her time. she wants to go to a field trip with one professor, but she has already agreed to help another professor to set up the museum exhibition. there are two solutions. one is to find someone else to do the museum setup for her. the other is to get the museum setup done before the field trip.
personally speaking, i think the second solution is better. first, she needs to know how to manage her time effectively as both activities are good for her studies. secondly, she already agrees to help the other professor to set up the museum exhibition. it is important to keep her promise.

sample answer
according to the professor, there are two definition of money. the first is the broad definition. money is just a medium of exchange. so anything you can make purchases with is called money. for example, the taxi driver might give a ride to a farmer in exchange for some vegetables. in this case, vegetables are used in barter as a form of money.
the second one is the narrower definition of money. by the law of the united states, only coins and bills are legal money. therefore, the taxi driver must accept coins or bills as payment for a taxi ride. he can not accept vegetables in exchange for a ride. so the narrower definition of money is the legal tender in a society.
